Movie posters from Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye
I've never seen Robert Altman's version of Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye, but now I'm intrigued. Apparently the movie initially opened to poor reviews and sales, and United Artists concluded that the problem was Richard Amsel's poster (above). They spent $40,000 on a new campaign designed by Mad magazine artist Jack Davis:
