Super Punch Interview: Bill Eggler

Meet Bill Eggler:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Sleep late, wake and bake, have a delicious diner breakfast with friends who understand the importance of diner food, work on my life-size “Aliens” power loader, too busy working on stuff to go out, get pizza delivered for dinner, some random dude who I’ve never met sends me a $100 Amazon gift card, I download the newest episode of Doctor Who/Weeds/Venture Bros./Breaking Bad/Mad Men/Boondocks, stay up late, chat with my international online buddies, go to bed and sleep like a baby. Perfect.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

I am waiting to see the film “Delicatessen” at the Tampa Theater in the early 90s. My date, Laura Stack, meets me outside the theater. It has rained and mist is rising from the hot pavement. Laura walks out of the mist like a cross between a film noir femme fatale and an angel. I have finally found my true love.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

I have killed someone, usually a woman. I haven’t gotten caught yet, but the authorities are closing in. I feel trapped, guilty, hopeless. It’s the only recurring dream I have ever had, and I’ve had it dozens of times.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

• My computer
• My Star Trek II tricorder replica
• My Art Deco bedroom set

5. What is your goal for 2011?

To make peace with Great Britain.

6. What super power would you most like to have?

The power to earn money.

*Buy Aliens power loaders at eBay.

Super Punch Interview: Colette Bennett

Meet Colette Bennett:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Let's see. We start out by cooking breakfast (maybe big veggie omelets and steaming cups of Royal Milk tea). After that, it's off to drive through the mountains with a bag of my toys, so I can take photos of them in the outdoors. Later that night, it's eating at my favorite sushi bar, seeing a really incredible band at the Hollywood bowl, and falling asleep curled in the arms of a person I love.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

The first day I ever saw my work in print is still one of my most memorable to date. I'll never forget that thrill!

3. What is your most common nightmare?

I'm always trying to find something or someone, but can never seem to get to them. I'm sure there's some grand Freudian meaning behind all that...

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

My iPhone (awful, but true...I can't live without the thing)
My laptop
My cats, Ender and Yuna

5. What is your goal for 2011?

To have my website, Tomopop, double in size from last year. We're well on the way!

6. What super power would you most like to have?

To move backwards in time. I would give anything to relive some of my happiest moments, but understand what great value they have *while* experiencing them.

*Buy The Interpretation of Dreams: The Complete and Definitive Text at Amazon.

Super Punch Interview: Lily

Meet Lily:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Waking up snuggling my beloved dork. Enjoying the fresh weather of the early morning into have a walk by the sea.

Having lunch with friends. Chatting many hours with my best friend who lives across the ocean (T_T). Being creative in the afternoon. Watching a nice video with my boyfriend during dinner (perfect you say? Then, the dinner shall be Indian food!).

Having a walk in the city by night, enjoying the lights of the city and the moon over the sea (that is just next to my flat), and spending the rest of the evening at an open-air concert (if possible: jazz, electro or folk rock).

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

Hrmm. I don't think I can select one. It's more about all those instants, these fleeting blisses that make your sigh full of serenity and joy. I tend to find instants like that, daily. It's a need. :)

3. What is your most common nightmare?

Losing the ones I love. I still haven't made peace with the "everyone shall die" thing. Working on it.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

A sonic screwdriver pen, given to me by my best friend.
The computer, because of the many personal stuff in there, and also for its ability to make me communicate with people far away.
The cocooning cream for my body.

5. What is your goal for 2011?

To grow a beard!
(And to become the best super villain ever, of course.)

6. What super power would you most like to have?

Super Punch Interview: Troy Allen

Meet Troy Allen:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Well, when I was a kid I used to get my comic books from the local liquor store. I can’t imagine that happening nowadays but in my neighborhood that was the closest place to get them. After innocently biking to the liquor store for probably a year to get comics, that switch went off in my head that tells every 13-year-old to push their luck. I used half of my pocketed school lunch money to purchase comic books and the other half to buy a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20. True Story. I guess the cashier had seen me so often that he figured I was getting it for my parents…I guess. I biked home sipping a handle of grape-flavored Mad Dog with a brown bag of comic books under my arm (at first, I put the brown paper bag around the Mad Dog because I saw people do it like that on TV, but then I realized I might ruin my comic books, so I switched them out).

I remember floating back to my house and being so exhausted and drunk from the bike ride that I laid there in the backyard with my copies of “Web of Spider-Man” and “X-Force” and I just resigned to letting the cool spring air put me to sleep. It was such a perfect moment before I threw up 30 minutes later.

To this day I still deal with comic book dependency.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for it. I'd like to say that self-publishing the comic book Bamn was a big moment for me but every issue that I complete is just a reminder that I have more to do. I guess I'm one of those glass half-empty people.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

Octopi. I wish I was kidding. I just Wikied "Octopus" to make sure I spelled the plural form correctly and I had to cover the image on the page with my hand. They are really disgusting.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

I'd like to think that I don't get attached to inanimate objects but I'm pretty certain that if my roomate used my "MTV New York" mug that I would go on an alphabetical killing spree. My laptop and Ipod are pretty important too, if anything happened to it...

5. What is your goal for 2010?

To get Bamn #3 and #4 out, to get these press kits moving and to get that damned comic book in more hands.

6. What super power would you most like to have?

Magnetism. Sexual magnetism.

*Buy pheromones at Amazon.

Super Punch Interview: Kal

Meet Kal:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Breakfast at one of those places that serve eggs benedict, trip to the combination toy store and comic shop, lunch with drinks, a nap and a cool movie at a theatre that has hot dogs as well as popcorn. Hell I eat a lot.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

Walking in the snow with Tara Crandall. We were suppose to be looking for a friend who ran out of the house in a huff but we didn't care if he was killed by a roving band of wolves. We stopped to warm up at every apartment along the way and kissed. Very cool. or Jumping on an open boxcar at 14 and riding the train all the way to Winnepeg, seeing Moonraker and then catching the bus back to the army base I lived on without anyone knowing what we had done.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

The Octopus Menace takes over the world and I have to go in the water with my team of specialist to take the world back with extreme prejudice. Either that or trying to get Tom Cruise to star in my 'Hello Kitty' movie.

Original Evil Knievel Stunt Cycle, My computer, My dad's pocket watch

Super Punch Interview: Scott Wygmans

Meet Scott Wygmans:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

My idea of a perfect day would be wakin up at a decent hour, makin some stinky, shit coffee and smokin mad cigarettes, and just drawing all day. Having a michigan winter snowing hard on the outside, forcing me to stay in and keep warm and just forced to be creative.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

Best moments in my life? I try to make the best moments in my life all the time. I don't know if I could limit any of them down to one exact time, because I feel like I'm always tryin to be on an adventure no matter if it's liquored up on two 40s a colt 45 or just bein with my baby gurl going to the grocery store. I try to stay positive no matter what I'm up to. So far as best moments, they have always been spent with friends and family.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

NIGHTMARES ARE THE BEST PART OF MY DAY! hail ultimate warrior.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

I go through phases of what's my favorite possession. Number one: is definitely my comic collection, I use it as a constant source of inspiration. I'm always trying to throw comics onto people who don't even read comics, just because I think the world needs to know how amazing stories can be. I have so much stuff, and don't regret anything. everything from issue 1-100 of spawn all the way to Ashley Wood's popbot, to every Hellboy and BPRD trade, to Judge Dredd to Cable to Lobo to the Maxx, all the way back again to Invincible and round it out with some mother fuckin SLAINE.

Number two: got to say it's this one Electric Zombie tee I have right now. Ever land that one tee shirt that always fits good every single day? No matter how many times you've worn it, always lands on those shoulders like putting on armor, so tight, so fresh (not literally, mostly smells like BO and pine sap) and feels so good. I go for dope artwork on my tees too, and before this tee, my favorite one was this Pig Destroyer "phantom limb" tee.

Number three: This is a stretch, cause thinking about all of the stuff I actually "own" is pretty few and far between, but if you remember the 80s you might remember this toy. I have the complete set of BATTLE BEASTS, which where this little 2 inch tall figures of animals wearing robot armor, and they had a special plate on their chest that if you held you finger over it, the decal would change to "fire, wood, or water". I always thought those dudes where super f'n awesome, and they where always something my mom bought me as a little kid. I'm big on little kid memories.

5. What is your goal for 2011?

Shit man 2011 along ways away! I feel like, my goal is to keep chugging along the path to doing great and honest comic book work, whether that's outside the field or inside making money. I love comic books all the way down to the marrow in my bones, and have dedicated my life to the pursuit of continuing it's greatness. So as far as 2011? I'd like to have some of my stories floating about in the world, getting my art into a many people's hands as I can. My biggest inspiration is making people feel great about reading comics, whether it's a cool story or just providing amazing artwork to the best of my ability.

6. What super power would you most like to have?

If I could have any super power, I'd probably just go with mutant healing ability. Anything to make me MORE like wolverine, is a step in the right direction.

*Buy Battle Beasts at eBay.

Super Punch Interview: Fuzzbelly

Meet Fuzzbelly:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Going out for a coffee and brunch with my partner Jason. Spending the afternoon painting or illustrating. Sitting down to a home made dinner and a movie.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

Attending a conference in Chicago. It was my first visit to a city that size and I was blown away by the scale and style of the architecture and the amazing people I met there.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

I have nightmares about getting lost in large crowds of people.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

My sketchbooks, filled with coloured paper (unusual and hard to come by). My camera, because I can capture reference material so quickly and easily. My comics, because they provoke my imagination so much.

My goal is to do less commercial illustration and more painting. Also, I'd like to catch a bit more live dance and theatre.

6. What super power would you most like to have?

I'd love to turn intangible at will.

*Buy vintage cameras at eBay.

Super Punch Interview: Bree

Meet Bree:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Any weekday when you can knock around town, or go to the zoo, or go to the movies. Preferably all three, but only if you can avoid having to wake up early or plan it out.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

Having an Native American Seer tell me that my totem animals are the otter and the owl, and that it is an exceptionally odd pairing. There is something about paying a stranger and then having them essentially tell you, "you're weird".

3. What is your most common nightmare?

I don't have recurring nightmares. My latest one involved Brian Williams from the NBC Nightly News, kicking down the door to my friends apartment and yelling at us about how cool drugs are and how we need to take them. Also he was wearing a red and black stripped hoodie and not a suit, so that made it even more unnerving.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

My camera, my bike, and my refrigerator. Have you ever lived without a fridge? It's hard, I'll never take it for granted again.

5. What is your goal for 2010?

Go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, in Orlando Florida.

6. What super power would you most like to have?

Whichever is least likely to interest the government in having possession of.

Super Punch Interview: Susan Sanford

Meet Susan Sanford:

1. What is you idea of the perfect day?

Hours and hours of free-ranging conversation with someone who likes to toss around ideas while in motion, that is, traversing a physical landscape, so that the flow of ideas matches the rhythm of walking.

2. Describe on of the best moments of your life

In a room where every person had been given a candle, about one hundred and thirty of us, listening to a story being read aloud. This is like all moments when one is in the moment and takes time to look around while inside it, I have it forever.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

Anything that smacks of confinement or limitation of vision, bashing through a wall that then reveals another wall.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

My miraculous digital camera that sees better than I do. A rock I found on the beach many years ago, which has a sort of picture on either side, and I would name a book, but it's hard pick just one...maybe Sheri Tepper's "The Family Tree"

5. What is your goal for 2011?

For that, or any year...Oh. trying to know the things I know, really know, more of the time...because I realize Important Things quite vividly (as do we all) and then they slip away. My goal for THIS year is to get some of my work into book formats.

6. What superpower would you most like to have?

None - I think something humbler, just showing up and being disciplined. I think I might get bored with a superpower. Is frustration the spice of life?

*Buy cameras at Amazon.

The one where I'm being chased by Charles Nelson Reilly, except he's got dog paws instead of hands. That one creeps me out.

My current sketchbook.

(Super Punch interviews are posted every Monday. Please read the bottom of this post if you'd like to participate.)

Meet Chris Blundell, the Archive of Everything and maker of "The worlds first feature length pixel movie":

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

An unattainable perfect day: Befriending a talking unicorn and going on magical adventures together and then eating a banquet made out of chocolate
a realistic perfect day: a sunny day, good food, good friends and good music.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

Argh! Choice! there are too many to pick one as "best" but one of the most memorable moments is my time managing a very famous bar in London. Lots of stories, none I'm allowed to tell!

3. What is your most common nightmare?

Zombies, which is also my biggest fear, go figure. I'll have a zombie nightmare at least once a week. I see it as training for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. Stick with me, you'll live.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

My computer. My bed. My guitar.

5. What is your goal for 2011?

To have finished my pixellated comedy movie The Hit Squad. It's been two years in writing, development and pre-production,and now I'm taking it into production. It will be the world's first feature-length pixel movie, needless to say it's a lot of hard work!

6. What super power would you most like to have?

It would have to be flight. You rarely see flying superheroes anymore, the sky used to be full of them. It's a shame.

Super Punch Interview: Melissa Sue Stanley

(Super Punch interviews are posted every Monday. Please read the bottom of this post if you'd like to participate.)

Meet Melissa Sue Stanley (who had a great line about Twitter):

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Up at 7:30 am. Get the husband out the door to work. Drink coffee and dick around the internet for maybe an hour. Take the dog on a long walk around the nearby lake. Have a little znüni and catch up on my hausfrau work. Run down to the shop for fresh veggies and cheese. Make an espresso and open the giant window in the art studio. Sit for the rest of the day and paint, draw, and/or sew something. Get a lot of solid work done. About 16:45 my good friend comes to get me and we have an apero at our little bar. Later, he drops me off at my regular bar, maybe about 18:30. My husband and another very good friend will be there, along with the rest of the after-work 'regulars'. We have a couple beers and practice our german, and then our friend drives us into the evening for kebab dinner and who knows what-all-else. The stars are out and the moon is on the mountains and the lake. We laugh a lot and stay out too late.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

It's happened a few times - it's when I travel with my husband, and some strange and unforeseen opportunity arises, and there's this little moment when we glance at each other and grin and think "of course we are going to do that". And then we go on some bizarre and wonderful little adventure together. (http://edandmel-travel.livejournal.com/)

3. What is your most common nightmare?

When I am sleeping: Having to go through the process of leaving my family and friends in Chicago again and again. (I recently moved to Europe)
When I am awake: Mediocrity.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

a) Green leather messenger-bag purse and its contents. We've been everywhere together. http://www.flickr.com/photos/melissastanley727/4603698555
b) A necklace with a tiny dead baby seahorse inside it.
c) My Canon G9

5. What is your goal for 2010?

In no particular order, but all pretty important:
*Become fluent in conversational German. *Paint the shit out of some canvas. *Continue to create unique soft-sculpture plush art. *Work on currently growing portrait-drawing career. *Learn how to tattoo. *Become a bartender (speaking german) *France, Italy, Vietnam, Cambodia, Spain. *Eat everything *Get a suntan *Kick ass

6. What super power would you most like to have?

I'd love to have the option to sleep, or not. If I could stay awake for a solid week I'd get so much more work done.

*Previously: Read more Super Punch interviews here.

*Buy sea horse jewelry at Amazon.

Super Punch Interview: Esti

(Super Punch interviews are posted every Monday. Please read the bottom of this post if you'd like to participate.)

Meet Esti aka Loopy:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Going to a foggy remote village and finding a totally unsafe trail up a mountain, complete with rickety wooden bridges, super tall ladders, and spooky tunnels... a'la Indiana Jones! (with the obligatory brews afterwards at a local watering hole). Or playing Marie Antoinette Tea Party with friends. :)

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

How about several connected moments? As in, wandering around Europe on a train and foot, wandering around USA in a car, wandering around cities looking for cool interesting things... and of course wandering around the internets! I love the sense of finding something new that I never would have found/experienced otherwise. I am a certified culture vulture.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

Zombies! WTH? It's always about getting me & fam to safety. Pretty terrifying! I blame Romero. I will give a shiny quarter to someone who could explain it to me!

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

My Bubbie's engagement ring, she had wonderful style! My demonic kitty, Tika. She knows just where to punch me in the eye in the morning! And all my graphic novels ever touched by Neil Gaiman, James Jean, Grant Morrison.

5. What is your goal for 2011?

Survive another year of grad school, travel to Cambodia (see Question #1 part 1), and do all those Arts & Craft projects I have waiting for me! Me = SLACKER.

6. What super power would you most like to have?

The ability to Start/Stop time! I'm pretty sure I started fantasizing about this in kindergarten. Mostly I just wanted to stop time so I could go play outside. It was the starting time again that always got me, because after playing outside, why would I ever want to start time and go back to class? Obviously I was not a good at pay attention in school.

Super Punch Interview: Benjy

(Super Punch interviews are posted every Monday. Please read the bottom of this post if you'd like to participate.)

Meet Benjy:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Okay, I am awoken by my beautiful girlfriend with Pancakes, Bacon and a cup of tea. Then I hear that work is closed because of Snow. So, we get up and watch a Friends double bill. Around eleven, I shower and get dressed in my new TeeFury t-shirt and my Wested Leather Jacket to go to the cinema. They're playing the Empire Strikes Back (the original, without the weird Kiwi Boba Fett) and at the end, they play Jedi as well just for the hell of it. Afterwards, we go for a mooch in Borders (sadly, now defunct) and I buy some comics (Sin City: To Hell and Back, or something by Alan Moore). We go for a Domino's for dinner, I have the Texas BBQ and it's heavenly. Then, when we get home, I find that Fallout: New Vegas has been released nine months early, and is sitting on my doorstep. I check my Youtube account to see that The Adventures of Findo Gask has reached a million views. I install Fallout, and play past midnight. Okay, so there's an element of Fantasy involved here, but that is my Perfect Day.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

I trained as an Actor in London, and one of the best moments in my life was the first time i performed in the West End. From Curtain Up to the end of the party to celebrate opening night, I felt like we were the Kings and Queens of Men. It was amazing.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

I have this post-apocalyptic nightmare that I'm living in a shanty town on the Coast in the last human settlement. There's nothing action packed or anything like that, it's just that there's now only about twenty or so people left on the planet. I'm freezing cold, but for some reason I'm only wearing a T-Shirt. Then I get terrible toothache, and when I touch my gums, all my teeth explode outwards and my gums are filled with rotting fish guts. THEN I WAKE UP!!!!! Frank honesty to share with the Superpunch community, but if there are any psychologists out there, I'd love to know what it means!

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

My iPhone - I don't care about Android or whatever, I got my iPhone for Christmas after years of wanting, and I can't imagine life without it.
My Laptop - this is how I keep in touch with old friends and family, watch films, make films, plan lessons (My day job is that of a Drama Teacher), see what's happening in the world, etc. Without it, I'd be blind (I include my modem in this)
A Signed Photo of Alec Guinness my brother got me for Christmas a few years back. I'm not really an ornament guy, but Guinness is/was my hero, and my brother never usually gets good presents.

5. What is your goal for 2010?

To quit my sh*t job, try and get an agent and either resume my acting career OR make one bitchin-ass independent film! I'll probably wimp out and stay in my job, but then this goal can just be transferred to next year (and the next year, etc. until the sweet release of death.)

6. What super power would you most like to have?

Interesting... If I could only have one, it would be Telepathy. However, if I could combine a few (Superman gets about twenty, why can't I?) then I would combine the Telepathy of Charles Xavier with the mutton Chops of Wolverine, the sardonic wit of Deadpool, the costume of the Punisher and the strength of Colossus. Also, I could fly. And see through women's underwear.

Super Punch Interview: The Dark

(Super Punch interviews are posted every Monday. Please read the bottom of this post if you'd like to participate.)

Meet The Dark:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

A perfect day for me is dreary and foggy. I might start the day tending my deadly orchids and poisonous vines in the greenhouse. Then I might lead some poor orphans astray in a forest full of ravenous witches who live in houses made of candy. While I'm deep in the forest I might stop to admire something horrible slinking from tree to tree. Sometimes I like to dream big. Like for instance, something else that makes a great day is a lunar eclipse. I know they're very rare, but I love that few seconds of unnatural gloom when the moon fully blocks the sun. It's like having a dull pillow smother your heart for a moment. You know I always say that money can't buy a lunar eclipse.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

Oh there are so many. I recently found out that Charles Addams was quite the ladies man and went to parties with Greta Garbo. Greta Garbo! Talk about living large. I'm more about the simple joys in life. Creeping around in basements and attics. Working on death ray generators in my laboratory. Learning how to sing like the Siamese cats in 101 Dalmatians.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

I find myself wandering around in a forest, naked. I notice that my body is glowing and there's something wrong with it. It's all doughy and swollen. I can only make horrible whimpering noises. Lost, I come to an abandoned mansion and start exploring it. As I walk around the mansion I trip on rugs, stumble on stairs and slam doors by mistake. Several times I accidentally hit my head with various objects. Near the end of the dream, I find myself in a large room filled with furniture. The furniture is upholstered with garish flowers. At one end of the room I encounter a huge mirror. To my horror, I look in the mirror and see that I am the ghost of Homer Simpson. I lose control of my senses and wake crying "D'oh!" over and over into my pillow. (shudder.)

Super Punch Interview: Miles

(Super Punch interviews are posted every Monday. Please read the bottom of this post if you'd like to participate.)

Meet Miles:

1. What is your idea of the perfect day?

Wake up before the sun rises. Pick up a few good friends, some coffee and snacks. And drive off into the sunrise on a roadtrip to someplace new.

2. Describe one of the best moments in your life:

During my last semester of college I was thrown a birthday party. Nothing major, just about a dozen close friends hanging out having some drinks, having some laughs. And as the evening progressed I sat back and looked around the room and came to a realization. What struck me was how in the span of a few short years we all had all gone from total strangers to incredibly dear friends. And I realized then, that none of the failures and hardships experienced in college would ever come close to this clear victory of loyalty and friendship. Later that evening I drank too much and fell asleep in a bathtub.

3. What is your most common nightmare?

The one where there is a wild animal loose in my apartment that I cannot get rid of it. This animal normally has some strange and dangerous ability that no normal animal has. The animal varies, but some memorable ones include a big dog that can pass through doors and a scorpion with a tail that can extend super far.

4. What are your three favorite possessions?

My car that gets me around. An old pair of hiking boots that do the same. And an old stuffed monkey from back in the day.

5. What is your goal for 2011?

To either be rolling along on a post grad track in cognitive psych. Or to hike as much as I can, if not all, of the Pacific Crest Trail. We shall see how 2010 goes first.

6. What super power would you most like to have?

To be able to make exact duplicates of myself at will, and be able to absorb the duplicate’s gained knowledge and experiences later. (I.e. Marvel’s Multiple Man.)
