Partygoers at Russian rave blinded by laser light show

Approximately two dozen ravers suffered retinal burns and loss of vision as high as 80%. The damage is attributed to event technicians using too-powerful lasers, combined with the fact that the party was tented in due to rain. So, lasers that were intended to light up the sky instead reflected off the tent, with disastrous results. Link. Via.

The story reminds me of an issue of Warren Ellis' excellent Global Frequency - - inhabitants of a town are mysteriously struck dumb by a shared religious vision.
