Olympic opening ceremony fireworks faked for tv

I only watched the parade of nations, so I'm not quite clear on what the fireworks display consisted of. But apparently the Chinese officials were so convinced the fireworks wouldn't look right on tv, that they used computer graphics to simulate the fireworks display and pretended it was live footage.

And they started working on that simulated display at least a year ago. Link. Via the guy with ugliest, yet most indispensable news site in the world.

Meanwhile, Google news, which I don't care for, has Russia invading Georgia (in the United States).
