Woody Harrelson and his publicist misunderstood Reddit
He volunteered to participate in an Ask Me Anything session, apparently thinking he could simply promote his new movie, and ignore the community's questions. Big mistake. Huge.

Link roundup
1. Threadless t-shirt vending machine.
2. Bleeding Cool: "Mirror Mirror Marketing Team Resorts To Astroturfing To Sell Tickets."
3. I really enjoy Town and Country magazine, but none of the content is online. One of the recent articles was about how regular diamonds aren't good enough for their readership, instead, they should seek diamonds from Golconda.
4. Fun storefront at Fraley's Robot Repair Shop. Via these sites.
5. I took advantage of the 99cent rentals of Attack the Block and Thor at Amazon (those deals are over). Thor was terrible. Boring, ugly, and did I mention boring? I hated it from the start, and my boys gave up an hour in. Attack the Block was very good, better than Super 8, which has the same basic story.
6. I post a lot of additional content at Tumblr.

EcoKat (the woman is EcoKat)

Meet the EcoEnforcers:
Meet EcoKat, crusader of conservation and fanatic of fluorescents. She has embarked upon Kansas State University with one mission: Reduce, reuse and recycle.
EcoKat, played by a K-State student who auditioned for the role, is outfitted in a costume made of 90 percent repurposed materials. The department of apparel, textiles and interior design helped with the final look, making it an entirely sustainable project partnering many campus groups.
The EcoKat video idea was born from a serious call to action that morphed into a more humorous, tough-love take on environmentalism.
EcoKat is not affiliated with K-State athletics, but Willie the Wildcat was added as one-half of the EcoEnforcers to make the local campaign uniquely K-State.
Willie the Wildcat
You may recognize Willie as the faithful warrior on the sidelines of every K-State sporting event, but he's taking his talents even further. Joining EcoKat as an EcoEnforcer, Willie is working hard to keep his favorite place on earth beautiful and sustainable. When not perfecting his raise-the-roof techniques and sculpting his arm muscles, Willie enjoys recycling, hunting Jayhawk and watching Planet Earth.

1. No pictures on the web?:
3. The BBTS has available for preorder the Batman Legacy series 2 figures I previously posted (Batgirl etc).
Focus and LAIKA were on hand at Comic-Con today to show concept art, puppets and props used for the family-friendly comedy thriller [ParaNorman], including Norman's room, which is peppered with zombie posters and a coffin alarm clock, and a room from the house of Mr. Prendergast (John Goodman), the town crazy guy who has a great trucker hat featuring a beaver with a wrench.2. If this is real, I don't see why it's not fraudulent.

I just thought you might enjoy this Fabio wallpaper
W+K is now scraping the bottom of the barrel to get attention for Old Spice, casting Fabio in a series of inane commercials. The real irony is that the commercials were probably never remotely as succesfuly as they were claimed to be - - they just happened to coincide with a coupon that was very useful to coupon ninjas.

1. Funny headline: "Homeopathy's Ineffectiveness Saves Lives." (As a demonstration, people ingested what should have been massive overdoses of "medication." But since the "medications" were homeopathic, they contained no active ingredients and had no ill effects.)
2. Even funnier, Zach Galifianakis's latest Between Two Ferns.
3. Conan O'Brien aired hilariously offensive mock Groupon commercials.

1. Check out the remarkable face on this caterpillar. (I don't think it's photoshopped?)
2. Lady on a motorbike.
3. Anyone received a letter like this? Anthem Blue Cross sent us a letter that simply says, "Our records show that your child may not have received an immunization that is included in a recently updated shot schedule. We've included a postcard that serves as a reminder to schedule an appointment with your child's health care provider." The letter does not tell us which shot they think we might have missed. And the "postcard" is a promotional insert from Pfizer that emphasizes the importance of vaccines.

Ironically-carved ivory

Is this ad for the World Wildlife Fund supposed to discourage us from killing elephants for their ivory, or remind how beautiful carved ivory is?

Racist Tide advertisement

The slogan for this Tide ad by Leo Burnett is "Don't let your colors mix." It's an anti-miscegenation message, right?

Examples of unbranding?
Unbranding is when you try to disassociate your brand with a particular celebrity - - for example, supposedly Coach doesn't want its upscale handbags associated with Jersey Shore's Snooki, so it sends her free purses made by rivals. The two commercials below, which are currently in very heavy rotation in Los Angeles, must be examples of unbranding, right?
The woman in this commercial for Lowe's looks like...well here's a few comments at Youtube:
And this commercial for Carl's Jr is so repulsive that I'm convinced it was paid for by Jack in the Box:

The woman in this commercial for Lowe's looks like...well here's a few comments at Youtube:
only reason I searched this video is to say these two shouldnt commit incest, it could create problems for the future generations.
Am I the only one who thinks they look related?
if related you mean they are both inbred and thats the explanation for her forehead then yes.

Zynga put faux bullet holes in cars to promote Mafia Wars?

Supposedly Zynga tagged all cars in the East Village with decals promoting Mafia Wars. Seems like tricking people into believing they've been the victim of a crime should be a crime. Via.

Fair use?
These book-cut illustrations are by Thomas Allen, one of my favorite artists:

Over the weekend, I spotted these ads at Ads of the World, and assumed they were by Thomas. They're not.

I contacted Thomas to ask about them. He was outraged and investigated. The responses from the advertising company, which claims fair use, and their "client" offer a fascinating look into the world of advertising competitions.

*Buy Thomas Allen: Uncovered at Amazon.

Defaced money featuring Lady Gaga's fashions (site, including the header, features unpleasant imagery). Via these sites.
And a few more links:
1. Pretty exciting comic strip about folding laundry.
2. Silly animated gif about a prison visit.
3. During news broadcasts, KTLA 5 in Los Angeles ran a three-part series on how great Ford is doing. At the end of the newscasts, they ran a disclaimer saying that Ford had paid a "sponsorship fee" to KTLA "in connection" with the coverage. Via.
