Mexican pointy cowboy boots

Vice:
In this episode of Behind the Seams we head to the dusty city of Matehuala, Mexico in search of the pointiest long-toed cowboy boots ever made. Over the past year, the botas vaqueras exóticas phenomenon has overrun the rodeo dance floors and clubs of this area and even spreading North into Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and any place where big groups of immigrant Mexicans have taken root. We made our way to Desierto Light, one of the clubs in this area where party promoters host dance-offs to music known as Tribal Guarachero. For the finals competition, the 17-year-old prodigy DJ Erick Rincón of the 3ballMTY crew performed for a crowd of adoring pointy-boot wearing raver cowboys.
Just a guy thing, apparently. Via these sites.

Link roundup

1. I mentioned the other day that Neal Stephenson had written an article lamenting what he saw as stagnation in scientific development. I don't believe that he mentions in the article his own association with Intellectual Ventures (which is now suing Motorola).

2. Corruption and death at a Vatican-connected hospital.

3. Video of Tom Cruise in a dance battle. It's like Zoolander in real life.

I'm still working my way through everyone's music suggestions, but Embody by Sebastian is my favorite so far, and has some terrific dancing that's sure to put a smile on your face. Via Mors.

Jordan Matter shows how he gets those great Dancers Among Us photos

It's not really the best dancing he's shown, but this video shows how skilled Jordan Matter is at convincing people to let him borrow and photograph their stuff.

Dancing in the rain

Jordan Matter photographed Annmaria Mazzini dancing in the rain. It took 92 jumps, but he got the perfect photo (no, not the one you see above).

Serious hula hooping action

A cubicle drone meets a hot girl and hula hoops through downtown Los Angeles in this movie by Philo Hagen. (Probably NSFW on account of a few barley dressed hula hoopers.) The song is "Gotta Do" by Quentin Harris, which is available for download at Amazon. (I drive through that tunnel everyday.)

Here's more Philo Hagen at Burning Man. The hoop moves so fast, it's hard to believe it's not CGI:
