Link roundup

1. From a review of Brutal Legend:
Like a solitaire or Bejeweled, you have to ask, when you remove even the context of resolution from real life, what is there but burning time. Is there an achievement out there for 1 million games of Bejeweled played? No amount of lines of Tetris fulfill anything. They disappear as soon as they form (Russians have a grim sense of humor–in my private world of crazy, my assumption is that the desire to build something constantly being undermined is some sort of metaphor about a totalitarian state, or maybe anybody with an MBA).
2. Two-headed snowman.

3. Pitchfork's top 100 songs of 2010.

*Buy albums for $5 each at Amazon.

Shrimp vs. Octopus Japanese game show (link roundup)

It's Octopus vs. Shrimp in a Japanese game show. This was actually the boss fight for the shrimp. He'd already defeated a lobster and two crabs. Via.

And a few more links:

1. Here's a good use for a white board - - invite passerby to contribute to a snowman army.

2. List of sci-fi novels, including Kim Stanley Robinson's excellent Red Mars, available for free download as a pdf.

3. New novel puts Carl Sagan in hell (and features the type of cover I'd be embarrassed to be seen in public with).

4. Mecha-Max (The bunny half of Sam and Max).

*Previously: How to make an octopus birthday cake.

*Buy mecha at eBay.

Darth Vader, after a trip to the dentist (link roundup)

Video of Darth Vader, after some oral surgery (and drugs) at the dentist. Probably funny even if you haven't seen the inspiring video David after the dentist.

And a few more links:

1. Video of Gwyneth Paltrow telling Oprah she doesn't watch what she eat.

2. How to protect your privacy on Facebook. Via.

3. Disturbingly large army of tiny snowmen.

4. A judge dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by three women whose photos appeared in the book "Hot Chicks with Douchebags," concluding the images were permissibly "used for humorous social commentary." Possibly one of the best sentences in an opinion ever:
how can a person reasonably believe that in 1981 archaeologist Renee Emile Bellaqua uncovered in a cave in Gali Israel a highly controversial Third Century religious scroll suggesting that the "douchey/hotty" coupling was a troublesome facet in early social religious structures?

Snowman paper toy (link roundup)

A little more complicated than the papercraft projects I typically post, but it still looks doable. Papercraft snowman by Matt Hawkins.

And a few more links:

1. Forget the hype about Twilight (the movie). It'll sell about as many tickets as . . . "Patch Adams, the No. 10 movie of 1998. Or roughly the size of George of the Jungle, which placed No. 13 the year before." Via.

2. Owner of cadaver transportation company who mishandled corpses sentenced to pay for billboard apologizing for misdeeds (photo link). Via.

3. William Gibson posted . . . an excerpt from his new book? Featuring characters from Spook Country?

4. Some notable media moments from 2008. I'd completely forgotten Jesse Jackson saying Obama was "talking down to black people . . . telling n—--rs how to behave." Yet that story was basically the only thing on every news channel for a day or two.
